For 2008, the C6 is powered by a version of the famous small-block V8 with a 200 cc increase the capacity of 6.2 litres. The LS3 engine delivers at peak output of 437 ps at 5900 rpm - up 9.2% - and 575 Nm of torque at 4600 rpm - an increase of 5.3% compared to the last year’s model. 2008 Corvette transmits power to the rear axle via a short-throw six-speed transmission or an optional six-speed manual Paddle Shift automatic transmission.
Drivers opting for the six-speed automatic transmission can choose between three modes: Drive, Sport and Paddle Shift. The fully automatic Drive mode uses shifting points of the advance and is optimized for speed changes smoothly. Sport mode features Performance Algorithm Shifting (PAS), which amends modes gear shift during fiery holding each gear flying at a higher rpm, and the provision of rapid change, for a better performance. Paddle Shift sequential mode gear changes are controlled by the driver manually, using paddles behind the wheel.
The six-speed close-ratio transmission is smaller “steps” between the wheels, which reinforces the sense of an upsurge in performance in a transparent manner and the softness. An initial report at the lowest ratio exceptional offer “throwing” in the status quo, while a high ratio top gear enables the automatic Corvette cruising quickly, quietly and economically with extra-urban figures from the higher fuel economy at 30 mpg.
Fitted with automatic transmission, the Corvette is capable of reaching a top speed of 186 km/h and acceleration from zero to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds.

When specified with the Magnetic Selective Ride Control suspension option (£1700), the C6 will be slightly ’softer’ gearing with different ratios of the manual transmission.
The Corvette has a chassis with a low weight of the steel hydroformed rail backbone structure, cored composite floors, an enclosed central tunnel, rear-mounted transmission and the structure of the cockpit of aluminum.
The mark proved short - and long-arm (double wishbone) and composite leaf spring independent suspension transverse configuration (front and rear) provides some legs, consistent ride and sharp, direct manipulation with excellent traction and stability in the cornering.
The C6 has a long wheelbase (2686 mm), wide track (1577 mm in the front and 1542 mm rear), and an engine mounted at the front, rear transaxle configuration. These features help to achieve a “perfectly balanced” 51/49% front/rear weight distribution, and are all excellent ingredients for a car with agility, manoeuvrability.
Three control systems dynamics of the chassis - Active Handling (ESP), traction control and ABS anti-lock - work together to provide a strong but discreet safety net at all times, even while driving high performance.
As befits a high performance supercar, the C6 has a powerful braking system. Impressive braking power is provided by 340 mm front brakes, which include six-piston calipers, rear and using 330 mm discs with four-piston calipers.
The optional Magnetic Selective Ride Control suspension (£1700) has a rapid reaction magneto-rheological shock absorbers that automatically adjust their depreciation rate, almost instantly, in response to developments on the ground and road surfaces. Two choices of the suspension - ‘Tour’ and ‘Sport’ - allow drivers to choose the institution that best fits their mood and driving style every day.
