BMW will present at Moscow Motor Show its new diesel engine, which was named Top Diesel. The main feature of the power units will be the availability of dual-regulated turbocharging with two different power compressors (Variable Twin Turbo), who run the energy of exhaust gases. A central element of the double-regulated turbocharging are two turbocharger - small and large. Compressors are included in various products, rather than simultaneously, in parallel systems, called “biturbo“. Work compressors precisely coordinated, so in some modes serve only one of them, while others - both at once. This technology increases the capacity by 25%, improves priemistost engine even at low turnover and increases capacity on high turnover.

At the low turnover intake air passes through freely disabled large compressor and then gets in a small compressor, which fear and pressure in this mode. Even at a speed of just 1500 rpm diesel engine, equipped with a system of double-regulated turbocharging, can develop a huge torque of 530 Nm. On average turnover connects large compressor, air is blown into a small compressor, further increases the pressure. The maximum torque of 580 Nm is achieved already with the 1750 rpm.

At a high turnover (3250 rpm and above) in the air cylinders fear only big compressor. Specially configured to high turnover, this compressor produces 210 kW (286 litres. Pp.) At 4400 rpm.

Despite the impressive characteristics of the engine, he does not “hungry” - just 7.5 litres per 100 kilometres for the BMW X5 (outside the city).
